CUSP Advanced Laparoscopic Training or CALT is a division of CUSP which deals with imparting Laparoscopic Surgical Skills to fellow Surgeons and Gynaecologists.
CUSP follows the dictum “To teach is to learn“. We understand the hardships faced by young surgeons and gynaecologists who struggle to get a good opportunity to learn the art of Laparoscopic surgery. Acquiring laparoscopic surgical skills is not difficult if you have a dedicated mentorship. Just by seeing and assisting, one can acquire significant confidence in minimally invasive surgeries. If someone is there to guide you through each and every minutest of steps, this journey becomes way easier.
CUSP team are leaders in field of Advanced Laparoscopy and Laparoscopic Oncosurgeries . We have a comprehensive training module for 3 months, 6 months and 1 year for the surgeons and gynaecologists interested in advanced laparoscopic surgery.
CUSP ensures monthly exposure of around 80 – 100 cases that a fellow will observe or assist. This will include complete teaching starting from basics of laparoscopy to advanced teachings and procedure. The fellows have to undergo basic training on endotrainer to develop a basic hand eye co ordination. The fellows will be assisting the team members in advanced cases like Bariatric Surgeries and Laparoscopic Oncosurgeries and later on doing them in parts and under supervision.
Hands on training for common cases like laparoscopic cholecystectomy, ventral hernia, laparoscopic appendicectomy, total laparoscopic hysterectomy is given. The vision is to see our students operate independently but keeping in mind the Principles of safe laparoscopy.
We have formulated various courses for the same.
Surgeons and Gynaecologists who have attained their post graduate degree from any university in India or Abroad and wish to pursue Minimal Access Surgery as a career.
They are of 3 and 6 months duration.
Upon completion of the duration of the course the candidates would be evaluated by a MCQ exam as well as by a Endo Trainer Lab Module for the skills acquired and would be awarded Diplomas with various grades.
Though we have a skills lab but we encourage all our trainees to buy their own Endotrainers and basic instruments so that they can spend more time in skill acquisition.
Accommodation for foreign trainees can be arranged on prior intimation. The charges have to be paid directly to the house owners.
The advanced Courses are of 12 months duration.
We organise short courses ranging from 15 to 30 days in batches. These courses teach you the basics of laparoscopy, equipment details and basic hand eye coordination and are recommended for beginners who wish to explore whether they can be good MA Surgeons .
